The Costa Del Sol covers 100 miles and includes 24 sandy beaches, several large resorts the most famous being Torremolinos and Marbella. Set on a backdrop of mountains running along most of it's length, the sun coast is a well developed tourist area, extending along almost the entire Mediterranean coast of Andalucia. Popular with the British holidaymaker since the 1960's, it was and still is a favourite with film stars and celebrities, and more recently with it's nickname 'the Costa Del crime' a haven for British under world villains. With it's many marinas and golf courses it also has it's fair share of Moorish and Gothic buildings as well as Roman remains.
The main airport is 7 miles south-west of the port of Malaga. The Costa del Sol is the perfect gateway to this quintessential part of Spain and offers so much more besides. From the cosmopolitan marinas of Marbella to the top class golf courses of Fuengirola, from the glittering sands of Torremolinos to the lively tapas bars of Nerja, the resorts that make up Spain's 'sunshine coast' offer all ages a fascinating spectrum of sights and activities by day and night.

Food and Drink on the Costa Del Sol.
The Costa del sol is famous for having plenty of restaurants serving a variety of English food, but it is well worth looking out for Spanish restaurants serving regional specialities. Spain is the home of the 'tapa' - a variety of small tasty dishes such as cheese, ham, sausage, omlette, vegetable/fish fritters etc, which accompany drinks. There are also classic Spanish dishes which include 'paella'( a rice, seafood and meat dish), 'escalivado'( an olive oil dressed salad of baked vegetables), and 'cuzuela de mariscos'( a rich seafood stew) Both local and other Spanish wines are inexpensive and include Cava (a sparkling wine) and Muscatel (a sweet dessert wine).
The most popular Spanish beer is 'San Miguel'. There are a host of small bars and restaurants as well as beach cafes, where you can find familiar International cuisine like McDonalds and Burger King and the Spanish tend to have their evening meals surprisingly late so do not expect the restaurants to start filling up until around 9.00pm. When eating your evening meal, you must try one of the most famous drinks in the world, Sangria. The traditional Spanish sangria recipe, a perfect cocktail for hot summer days on the Costa Del Sol, is made up of Red Wine, orange juice, lemonade, ice, fresh mint and sliced fruit such as oranges and lemons and is refreshing and easy to drink with a wide variety of foods.
